Fiiiiesta!!!

Its been 12 years since I last stayed full time during Bacoor Cavite Fiesta and I can say that nothing has changed over the years. Even the fiesta celebration itself still hasn’t changed over the years. The "Happy Mother's Day" greetings to my grandma, ninang and titas, Pasiklaban ng mga Banda at Musiko where around 30 marching bands of Bacoor compete against each other by playing their upbeat music and displaying their flashy fashionable outfits, the feeling of giving up to the unending abundance of food set on the buffet table, the procession of the Flores de Mayo participants, the gossiping with my dear cousins, the intellectual chats about life, people, and current events with my loving grandparents, the beer bellies, the showy display of fireworks (Guerra, helicopter, etc.), the TORO (a person carrying a coat full of fireworks which runs after the people) which makes the crowd go wild, and the stunning pyrotechnics that brightens the sky and caps off the festive day.

The night celebration is the crème de la crème of the Fiesta celebration! All the people in town wait for the Kampana (bell) to ring at 9pm which means that the night celebration is about to start. They, including myself, excitedly go out of their houses just to have a glimpse of the showy display of fireworks set at the center of the St. Michael Parish grounds. The people also are very much thrilled yet in fear of getting in contact with the TORO fire which runs after the crowd. That’s what makes it very exciting! People don’t know when the TORO is after them. To cap the celebration off, a glitzy display of beautiful fireworks illuminate the Bacoor sky. Even though it is a yearly festivity, people don’t lose their hearts and affection for the celebration. People spend, eat, play, prepare, invite people, spend again, and again, yet it never mattered cause at the end of the day, it’s still all worth it. I wish the Fiesta celebration here in our village is the same as Bacoor’s way of celebrating it.

Flag Football All-Stars / S.O.M. cLoe Edition

Well, yesterday was the women Philippine flag football league’s All-Star day. The different teams of the WPFFL picked several people from the team to participate in the different games installed for the day.

There were 8 different games for each of the teams to compete on (longest kick, longest punt, deflagging, longest throw, most accurate throw, fastest run 40yards, fastest run 80 yards, most accurate snap), and a finale game where all teams were mixed and divided into two for the patintero game! Really! Patintero!

I participated in the deflagging game where I had to deflag 10 people in 10 seconds. The most number of flags deflagged within 10 seconds wins. I and the rest of the participants were only able to deflag 8 flags, while one person, the winner, got to deflag 9 flags within the time limit.

After all the 8 team vs. team games, it was time for the patintero. The stipulations were the same with the original Philippine patintero aside from the fact that instead of just touching the opponent to be the offensive team, the “taya” or the defensive team needs to deflag one of the opponent team’s member. Cool! I knew it would be fun because patintero used to be my favorite street game when I was a kid. All the 6 ladies' teams (about 60 players) were mixed and divided into two –the red and the yellow team. I belong to the latter. At first, both teams kept on deflagging the opponent when they were the defensive team. A time out was called and after that, the teams were given two chances to win as many points as they could. It was the yellow team fist who tried to win a point but we failed because someone from our team was deflagged. Next it was the red teams’ turn to earn points. They were able to gather 2 points which made our team more determined. Our turn came and it was the most wearing part of the entire game because we were pressured to earn points. 5 in our team, including me were able to pass the red team’s defenders and were ready to score. We were “homing”, as what it was usually called. Imagine 5 points if all five of us were able to pass through the last line of defenders. Unfortunately, one of the members behind us who couldn’t move forward due to strict defenders on the line stepped back into where she came from, which was against the rules. We lost due to that but it was really fun! Really really fun! I felt I was a kid again! Plus, we had a free shirt just for the event! COOL!

Also, i wore my new pair of long socks! hehe

Some marker flags used for the games.

After the all-star games, I, MJ, KC, and Juan went to Shinjuku Ramen House in Makati to dine with MJ’s parents. I was able to eat the most delicious Gyoza I have ever tasted in my entire life! Hehe!

This is MJ

After the dinner, we went straight to MJ’s house and had some drinks. We talked about life, friends, football, and some sentimental stuff which drew us closer to each other. We also took some pictures and a video of Mj’s crib and ate lots of vodka candies! That was hella good time!

Nangkasoy and Triple Chocolate

Those are the two limited edition flavors of Nestle ice cream that are sold for only five pesos per scoop at tropical hut grocery store, shopwise festival mall, and shell select magallanes. Surely, there are more nestle ice cream stands around metro manila that has that special promo offered for the summer. 5 pesos? Cheap right?! Compare it to the dirty ice cream which sells 10 pesos per sweet cone, it still comes cheaper because of the special flavor and luxurious ingredients! Damn it taste good too! Don’t be judgmental with the langka flavor. Taste it first and regret ever doubting it! Imagine langka ice cream loaded with kasoy! Imagine chocolate ice cream with bitter sweet chocochips and sweet chocolate slices! They both are delectable though NANGKASOY excite my buds more… I like it even better than Haagen Daaz’s Macadamia ice cream! Hehe ofcourse I couldn’t compare the taste since they are obviously different but I’d enjoy eating a scoop of Nangkasoy more! Just this afternoon I had three scoops one after the other. I just love it! You gotta try it!

family time

I just came from Subic- again- but this time, with my family. Well, as I’ve said, there was no planning involved as to where we would be going for the long week end, nor on how long would be staying in the unnamed place… and so, mother asked us to pack some stuff just incase we wouldn’t go home at once… and so we did. We had different places in mind. Subic, Anilao, Bagiuo, La Luz, anywhere in Batangas, anywhere in the north… EXCITING!

We left our house with our stuff and agreed, while we were on the way, that we’d be going to Subic! We had a stop over at mcdonald’s and then continued on with the ride. Ok. When we were just 10 minutes away from the area, we missed a shorter route which led us to an extra hour of driving around Olongapo City. Our first supposed to be destination: the beach. We went to several beaches and unfortunately all the beaches were super crowded that even the resort itself does not allow any extra accommodation for anyone for the entire day. And so, we just ate instead. We went to Rico’s Restaurant, a relative-owned resto in Olongapo. After which, we searched for a place to stay in. We rested for a little while and then got our excited-want-to-swim butts off the bed and got ready for our swimming activity. We inquired and searched for the best beach in the area and when we got there, I realized, it was the same beach I went to 2 weeks ago with my football team. Grrrrrreat- at least I got to swim under the sun! Funny, I think I didn’t get any tan line from the beach. How come I don’t get any darker??? Is this the maximumEST dark complexion for me? Rarrr! Hahaha! =) we ate again afterwards and slept. It was a very tiring day.. just plain road trip kills my butt. Wonder how I’d manage to stay in proper decorum on our Pagudpod trip, mind you, 16 hours of driving?!! My butt burns like hell! (my brother with the cam)

Next day: We visited the Subic Center (forgot) and checked out the amenities that they offer. We went go karting and damn it! my sister didn’t wait for me and my brother. The two of us waited for each other for a fair judgment on who’d finish the 10 lapses first but my sister got off and proceeded with her karting while the two of us were left behind, waiting for each other.

(my sister, me, then my brother)

DAMN IT! Ofcourse she finished first and I second but if justice was basis, she’d be disqualified. And so, I think I did win the race! Hehe! =)

Anyway, after karting, we had so may stop overs. One was in a crab stand along the road.

We loved seafood, and my mom has lust for crabs with aligue. We stopped by and searched for crabs with aligue but nothing satisfied my mom. We searched and searched at two crab stands but nothing really appealed to her. As an exchange for the time they spent attending to us, we brought some even without overflowing aligue.

We ended up eating at Razon’s, a famous eatery for their special halo-halo and palabok.

A chilled bowl of sweet banana, macapuno, and shredded ice topped with leche flan was served after the main course.

With bellies stuffed, we hit the streets again and squeezed into traffic madness. Headache! Headache! Super headache!

I got home and a shell report that needs furnishing waits for my arrival. Damn it! Instead of sleeping I had to do the report due to someone’s laxity. @$$! Ofcourse I shared with my family each and every detail of my rabid annoyance. Oh yes, I was every inch the frisky bitch itching for a punch to the impish freak! Even with a severe headache, I managed to stay awake up to 4 in the morning just to finish the report. Fucker! And guess what, I had to wake up at 7 coz we’d be meeting in school at 1030am! My headache was still there.. clinging.. DAMN! Anyway, it was already over. Oh man, was last night ever a physical and an emotional nadir…
